Pro Tips

The opening hole gives a glimpse of things to come at River Creek. The driving area is generous with the hole ever so slightly yawing to the right. The green foreshadows the theme of many greens to come. The oblong kidney-shaped green is protected by a bunker towards the right of the green. You can attack the left pin, but be careful of back-right pin placements.

Pro Tips

For most players, hole two will require something other than a driver off the tee. A well-positioned tee shot will give you a wedge or short iron to the green. However, again, this green can bite especially when it is positioned back right. The water in front of the green can make even the best players a bit nervous.

Pro Tips

This hole offers a generous landing area off the tee with a fairway framed by bunkers on both the right and left sides. The green is somewhat horseshoe in shape with a small grass knoll in the center front of the green. The green slopes from back to front, don’t be long on your approach shot or you will pay.

Pro Tips

By all accounts hole four is a birdie opportunity. You must pick the proper angle off the tee, avoiding the water, but not go through the fairway. Once this is accomplished it is an opportunity for most to hit the green in two and have an eagle chance. If not, a lay-up to the right side of the fairway gives you a great opportunity to get one close on this two-tiered green.

Pro Tips

Your first par three of the day will bring you plenty of angst. This hole is guarded by a beautiful water feature on the entire left side. The right side is guarded by a large bunker complex, and the green is over 30 yards from front to back. Try your best to put the ball on the proper tier to give yourself a chance at a birdie.

Pro Tips

You will be greeted by a slightly blind tee shot, that when hit on the right side with a draw could find a speed slot that could give many extra yards. The downhill approach to a large green complex is quite inviting. The green slopes from back to front, which you will need when hitting a mid to long iron into this hole.

Pro Tips

Definitely one of the signature holes at River Creek, this mid-length par three drops over 40 feet from tee to green. It will test your yardage adaptation skills. Beware of the back-right pin placement. Long, short or right of that pin is almost an instant bogie or more.

Handicaps:

Yardage by Tee:

GOLD 443

BLUE 411

WHITE 373

RED 331

PURPLE 331

Pro Tips

Hole eight offers a straightforward tee shot with Goose Creek bordering the right side of the hole. A good drive will set up a mid-iron to a green protected by a small water feature on the left side, and a long green from front to back. Do not go long on your approach shot as the water feature wraps around the back of the green and is very close to the putting surface.

Pro Tips

This beautiful river vista is a risk-reward par five. The tee shot offers an ample landing area, but a stray right shot on any shot on this hole will find the Potomac River. The second shot begs the question to go for it or not. The fairway narrows dramatically near the green and a slightly right shot will find the river. A left bailout will leave you with a very difficult pitch over a bunker to a relatively narrow green. This hole will test your nerves on every shot.

Pro Tips

Hole ten offers an inviting fairway which is framed by a bunker on the right-hand side. A well-placed drive will give you a mid to short iron into this oblong upside-down L-shaped green. The back left pin placement will invite many to the land of bogie, even if just slightly off the green near that pin.

GOLD 578

PURPLE 460

Pro Tips

This par five will be a three-shot par five for most. A well-placed drive should stay on the left side of the fairway. This will give a better vantage point for the second shot around the slight dogleg right. A great angle for your third shot will be from the far left of the fairway. The green is again narrow from front to back, oblong in shape and is protected by a front right and back middle bunker.

Yardage by Tee:

GOLD 326

BLUE 316

WHITE 306

RED 306

PURPLE 257

Pro Tips

This short par four will play very similar to hole 2. The tee shot will require something less than a driver for most players. The second shot will be played over a daunting water feature that will gobble up any ball that flutters in the air too long. The green has a front center bowl which will catch a lot of approach shots. A birdie hole on the scorecard, this hole can produce a plethora of bogies.

# 13 / Confederate Bend

Yardage by Tee:

GOLD 406

BLUE 389

RED 326

PURPLE 326

Pro Tips

This hole offers a relaxing tee shot, but gets devilish up by the green complex. The green meanders from front to back and to the left covering at least twenty yards. The green is tiered in the middle separating the front from the back. Miss it to the left and you have a four-foot drop to a grass bunker. Miss right and you have a large bunker complex. The best shot is to the middle of the green, take your chances at making a putt.

Yardage by Tee:

GOLD 170

BLUE 143

WHITE 123

RED 123

PURPLE 84

Pro Tips

A long mid to long iron will have to be accurate to this heavily guarded green complex. Although the green is guarded in front, the shot that goes over is an almost automatic bogie. The green is narrow from the right side to the middle of the green and then expands from front to back on the left side of the green. If the pin is in a favorable spot this hole can be attacked.

Pro Tips

This beautiful hole starts a wild ride to the finish along the majestic Potomac River. This relatively short hole offers a beautiful vista on the tee shot where you can see all the way to West Virginia from this perched tee. The tee shot must be straight. Many players will take a three wood to provide more control. The second shot drops over 60 feet to a minuscule putting surface that has trouble on all sides but short. Left will be in the Potomac and right will be in a creek. Good luck on this treacherous second shot.

Yardage by Tee:

GOLD 606

BLUE 573

WHITE 518

RED 470

PURPLE 470

Pro Tips

This flat but treacherous par five is only a two-shot par five for the longest of hitters. Each shot in the trio brings its challenges. The tee shot must avoid the Potomac River down the entire left side of the hole. The second shot must dodge a water feature on the right side starting at about 200 yards from the hole, and the Potomac River on the left. The third shot must cross over the water feature on the right side and front of the green. You cannot let your guard down on this hole or you can make a big number.

Yardage by Tee:

GOLD 224

BLUE 195

WHITE 170

RED 170

PURPLE 139

Pro Tips

This beast of a par three plays well over two hundred yards from the back tees. The green complex is protected on the left side by a bunker. The right side is guarded by heavy rough and often times produces a downhill lie on your corresponding chip or pitch. The green slopes from back to front and will be very receptive to long iron or fairway wood into this green.

Handicaps:

Yardage by Tee:

PURPLE 306

Pro Tips

This finishing hole tests your skill on every shot. The tee shot is protected by a large water feature down the right side of the hole and a bunker complex on the left corner of the fairway. Once you maneuver between these two hazards, your second shot must carry over the same water feature on the right side. A front and a left bunker will catch any shot that just covers the water, or bails out to the left. The green is two-tiered and will be extremely fast from back to front. You will be ready for a cold drink after finishing on this beautiful, but difficult final hole.
