Scotland Course
# 1 / The Slot
Par: 4
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 392
GOLD 359
TOMMY ARMOUR 359
WILLIE 324
VARE 293
Pro Tips
Feeling a bit claustrophobic on the tee? Don’t. There is plenty of room over the mounds on the left. Although Safe, that is not the place to be. The green opens with a well-placed tee ball down the right side. The bunker back right is visible, but the one back and away left is blind.
# 2 / Blind Temptation
Par: 4
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 324
GOLD 304
TOMMY ARMOUR 304
WILLIE 284
VARE 266
Pro Tips
This short Par 4 needs to be approached from the right side to avoid the three bunkers to the left of the green. The green is extremely demanding, and the pin is partially obscured when placed on the left side. Use a long iron or a fairway metal and aim at the target bunker to the right of the green.
# 3 / The Pit
Par: 3
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 197
GOLD 165
TOMMY ARMOUR 165
WILLIE 142
VARE 111
Pro Tips
By all means, avoid the bunker on the front right (the one with the steps). Left or long is fine, and do not be short, or you will catch the “burn.”
# 4 / Long & Wide
Par: 4
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 477
GOLD 447
TOMMY ARMOUR 411
WILLIE 411
VARE 366
Pro Tips
It is a long way to the flanking bunkers, so aim at the mound in the center. Your second shot is bound to be a long one, so craft it between the mounds. Watch out, the green falls away back right.
# 5 / Dragon’s Lair
Par: 5
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 529
GOLD 497
TOMMY ARMOUR 497
WILLIE 468
VARE 408
Pro Tips
Hugging the bunkers on the left may give you a go at the green in two but a shot flared to the right has no chance. Your second shot, if hit left of the ridge, will give you a level approach to the green. If you choose to go right, though shorter, you will have to flirt with the three bunkers, and it will leave you an uphill approach to the two-tiered putting surface.
# 6 / Lone Pine
Par: 4
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 464
GOLD 430
TOMMY ARMOUR 395
WILLIE 395
VARE 356
Pro Tips
You can hit it almost anywhere on this bunkerless hole and have a go at the green, unless you’re unfortunate and hit the only tree on the course. If you find that lonesome tree, head to the pro shop immediately for a lesson. The green has no immediate trouble around it but a par is well deserved because of the length.
# 7 / Sam’s Solution
Par: 5
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 617
GOLD 585
TOMMY ARMOUR 547
WILLIE 547
VARE 506
Pro Tips
A long drive down the right side allows for a chance at the green in two. The three bunkers are just for appearance, the real trouble is the deep corner bunker in route to the green. Your smart play is to hit to the left of the trouble on your second shot. You may have a longer shot but you will have an open approach to the fat part of the green.
# 8 / The Postage Stamp
Par: 3
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 180
GOLD 144
TOMMY ARMOUR 144
WILLIE 128
VARE 103
Pro Tips
This hole emulates the design characteristics of the infamous Hole No. 8 at Royal Troon. This “smallish” target is guarded by deep bunkers to the right, one to back left and one short left. Do not miss, or bogey may appear on your scorecard.
# 9 / Homeward Bound
Par: 4
Yardage by Tee:
GREEN 489
GOLD 454
TOMMY ARMOUR 387
WILLIE 387
VARE 346
Pro Tips
If long Par 4s are your forte, you should be warmed up for this closing hole. If you hit it hard down the left side, you will have your best angle of approach to attack the green, which is guarded front right and back left. The green is elevated, so a run-up shot is not an option. Fly it to the pin and make a memorable birdie.
